Send Them Your Love With Handmade Greeting Cards
Making handmade greeting cards or invitations may seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite simple. The great thing about handmade greeting cards is that they're like mini-scrapbook pages, so you're forced to be efficient with your space. You can create a new masterpiece with each card or take your favorite template and put a new twist on an old favorite. Now, before we get started with some ideas, let's talk size...envelope size to be exact. Just like scrapbook albums are made for specific scrapbook layout sizes, envelopes also come in different sizes and we can't talk handmade greeting cards until we know what size card will fit! For the most part, you're going to see square or announcement (A-size) envelopes in your local craft store. Specifically, 5" and 6" square envelopes (which require additional postage) and announcement A-2 (4.375" x 5.75"), A-6 (4.75" x 6.5") or A-7 (5.25" x 7.25"). The size insert (handmade greeting card) for these envelopes is as follows: Square 5": 4.75" SquareSquare 6": 5.75" SquareA-2: 4.25" x 5.5"A-6: 4.625" x 6.25"A-7: 5.125" x 7" If you are using a different size envelope, a good rule is to make the card about a quarter-inch (.25") smaller than the envelope length and width.
